Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if a delivery route is profitable?
Route revenue minus vehicle cost (miles × true cost per mile) minus driver time. A $240 route driving 90 miles at $0.70/mile with 5 driver-hours at $22 nets $67 — many "busy" routes net less than zero.
What makes one route more profitable than another?
Stop density. Twenty stops in 30 miles crushes twenty stops in 90 miles — same revenue, a third of the vehicle cost and drive time. Price sparse routes higher or decline them.
Should I ever run a break-even route?
Only strategically: to anchor a new area you are filling with more accounts, or to keep a key client's whole book. Time-box it and re-price — permanent break-even routes subsidize someone else's business.
